Very soon the long-awaited game from Capcom will be released – Resident Evil Village or simply Resident evil 8, which will continue the story of Ethan, the hero of the seventh part. In my review, I suggest recalling Resident evil 7; what it was like and is it even worth playing now?.
A few words about the RE series.
Resident Evil is a cult series that dates back to 1996. I’ve played all the main games in the series and am a true fan. And I’m looking forward to part 8, in which we will return to the main character of the seventh, which we will talk about today. When she first came out, some YouTubers poured shit on her and said that she was the freak of the family. But after going through it myself, it seemed pretty good to me. And after 4 years, I propose to remember, and for some to get acquainted with this project for the first time before the eighth part, since they are connected by the plot.
I am positive about the fact that Capcom introduced a new character into the series and gives the player a 1st person view. After all, the rezik needed an update, as was the case with part 4, when the camera was moved from the static version behind the character’s back.
Plot plot. (Spoilers)
So, Ethan, our main character, comes to the forest for his wife, who disappeared a long time ago and no one had heard anything about her, but he received a message about her whereabouts and rushed at full speed. Next, we make our way deep into the forest through sticks, leaves and shit until we come across a barn that we need to enter, after which the standard cliché of all horror films occurs with the door closing on its own. And from just the view from the inside, anyone would have guessed to get the hell out of here and continue to sit quietly in their cozy apartment, but not our main character. Moving further and further through rooms and basements, we actually find our wife. Then we try to escape with her, but it turns out that it’s not so easy. Mia (wife’s name) is infected with some kind of virus, so she periodically swings her fists, knives, and other objects, trying to beat the crap out of her hubby too.
And since Ethan is also no slouch, he gives a good rebuff to his beloved wife, with whom something is clearly wrong. And so it would seem, take Mia by the armpit, throw her in the car and go to the hospital, but it turns out that it’s not so simple. A moment later, the hero receives a tasty blow to the jaw from one of the residents, after which Ethan drools on the carpet for at least another couple of hours. And when he wakes up, he finds himself at a dinner party. And this can be considered the starting point of the main events.
Puzzles
As the entire plot progresses, we need to move further and further, collecting various cards, figurines, etc., in order to open doors that contain keys to other doors, and in these doors, other doors that also require keys. In general, everything is according to resident standards.
But besides the usual finding of keys and doors to them, there are other types of puzzles here, if you can call them that. For example, a game with the shadow of an object, in which you need to rotate the thing so that the shadow converges with the picture. This is done in an elementary and simple way, so you don’t have to rack your brains too much. In general, if there are puzzles here, they don’t take much time. They’re here purely for the sake of formality. Basically it’s all about, as I said earlier, finding shit in order to discover another shit, which will lead you to a third shit. And even if there are problems in such a matter, then there are pills especially for you that will show the loot that is nearby. And, by the way, they are really useful, because loot can be shoved somewhere in the very ass of the location, where there is a high probability of overlooking it.
Weapon
In addition to solving puzzles, you will https://huc99casino.co.uk/login/ also need to defend yourself. Because this is survival horror here, take a gun in your hands and extinguish the creatures, no outlast with hide and seek and running away from enemies. At most, it makes sense to kite the enemy in order to choose a more convenient place to attack. And here everything is already in the spirit of the good old residents. The guns are revealed gradually as you progress through the story. Ammo is limited and the higher the difficulty, the less there will be and the more HP the enemies will have. So I advise you to be more accurate. The game does not offer any extraterrestrial guns, everything is according to earthly standards: Pistols, grenade launcher, machine gun, mines, etc. For everything you need your own individual cartridges.
Opponents
If there are weapons, then there are scum that need to be killed. Logical? Logical. Enemies are pretty sparse. Throughout the game, you will mainly encounter these under-zombie under-dementors, who look like a clog in your sink.
I hope there is no need to explain that if you shoot in the head, the damage will be greater? But if you are still a typical sniper of the Russian army, and you have -600 vision, then you can also shoot at the limbs, with some probability you will be able to shoot them off.
Craft
And where would we be without crafting?. In this part, as in the previous ones, he is also present. Thanks to it, you have the opportunity to create cartridges for almost all types of weapons, as well as first aid kits, thanks to which you can extend your life at least a couple more moments. Crafting is a good opportunity to replenish ammunition if the found ammunition runs out. Resources for creation will also come across as you progress.
Crafting recipes are so simple that even a child can handle them. And no, it’s not bad. Resident is not a sandbox where you need to know 100,500 variations of item creation by heart. Everything here is as it should be for a survival horror. But just in case, I’ll leave the recipes below.
Recipes with regular epoxy.
Recipes with reinforced epoxy.
Bosses
Okay, now to the bosses. Initially there are 3 of them. Grandfather (Daddy Jack), his syphilic wife (Margarita) and Galat (Lucas). At the end of the game you will be introduced to Evelina.
Evelina is the main opponent of the whole story because of which the whole catastrophe began. It was she who infected the Baker family, after which they turned from an ordinary family into cannibal killers. Mia went off the rails and it was also her fault.
From the very beginning, she is presented as a harmless grandmother who is simply found in different places in the mansion, but at the end of the game all the cards are revealed, and the hero finds out that behind the mask of “God’s dandelion” is a mutant girl who will have to be killed.
Each of them will have to fight. I also want to note that these are not just cardboard dolls, but truly interesting characters. Especially this grandfather. Charisma oozes out of him. Regarding fights with everyone, basically you just need to beat them and not let them beat you, that’s essentially all. There are no secrets, clever tactics, etc. In fact, if you play the game on minimum difficulty, the fights are even boring. Only with Galat there is any variety, where in order to win you need to solve a puzzle. And this is one of the most interesting moments of the game. I wish there were more of them here.
Difficulty level
But there is something that I absolutely do not like. This is the highest difficulty level, which opens only after completing it on medium. And this is complete crap, I hope this won’t happen in the new part. I’ll explain, when I play through Resident Evil for the first time, I want the game to give a challenge of the maximum level from the very beginning, as it was in Resident evil 2 remake, where the “hardcore” level could be selected at the first start. And “Hardcore” means even less ammunition, first aid kits and other ammunition; even tougher opponents and the ability to save only when you have a special tape. And if you die, then start from the most recent save and don’t care how much you went through before that. But there isn’t that much tape, so you always have to think about whether it’s worth spending it now or going a little more and then saving. And when you choose the second option, and then they kill you and you roll back 30-40 minutes – that’s the thrill. Of course, this is a minus of time, and most importantly nerves, but this mode was invented for these purposes. Unfortunately, here this same hardcore mode opens only after you beat the game for the first time. So go again if you want to get the full experience.
But someone might like this solution from the developers. Because at the highest level of difficulty the location of some items changes, and also at the very beginning of the game you are given a very powerful pistol with which you can run through the entire game. True, it only holds 3 rounds, so I advise you to aim better.
It seems at first glance that the game is not that good. There is very little in her from the same resident that fans love. The puzzles are easy, the game does not shine with a variety of opponents (but to be fair, it should be noted that the previous parts were not particularly different in this). But despite all her flaws, I like her. Atmosphere, characters, nice graphics, which after 4 years still looks good, although it’s still not without soap. All this creates sympathy in my cold heart, and I really want to recommend Resident Evil 7 if you haven’t played it yet. The game also has some good DLC, which also deserve attention, and I also recommend checking them out. My rating for the game is 7/10, quite good and deservedly so.
It’s annoying that many players shit on seven, saying that this is not the Resident evil that was before, but it was better before. And now I have a question: “Did you even play Resident evil??». Okay, let’s assume that from the first to the 3rd part this is, we can say, canon, classic, that’s all.
Next comes the fourth, which has definitely become more casual, I went through it, I know what I’m talking about. Right now I can’t remember a single more or less complex puzzle from this part.
And the fifth and sixth ones generally went into full action with quicktime events and Hollywood-level scope.
With such a contrast, it is fair to say that the seventh part, on the contrary, returned to its roots.
